Jebediah Morningside, also known as The Tall Man, is a fictional character and main antagonist of the Phantasm series of horror films. The Tall Man first appeared in the first Phantasm in 1979, and his most recent appearance was Phantasm V: Ravager in 2016. In all of his appearances, the Tall Man has been portrayed by the late Angus Scrimm.
Biography[]
The Tall Man, also known as The Red Planet, is a living dimension who exists out and above time, space, reality, gravity and narrative lines. He has assumed a human form to go to Earth to kidnap people for the purpose of transforming them into monsters.
Appearance[]
The Tall Man appears as a tall (hence his name), elderly, white-haired man, usually posing as a mortician. Subsequent to his transformation from Jebediah Morningside, he has only ever been seen to wear a tailored black suit, befitting of his assumed profession. He seems to speak only rarely, preferring instead to rely on facial expressions, particularly the raising of one eyebrow, the latter of which in particular has become an icon of the character. His true form is a dimension called the Red Planet who appears as a red sphere 20x times bigger than the Sun.
Powers And Weapons[]
Every Tall Man's avatar has superhuman strength, and has been seen lifting a man or even an entire (occupied) coffin with only one arm and without effort. He has also been seen to possess telekinetic abilities, able to control both inanimate objects and people with only the use of his mind. Every new avatar can also adapt on. He can also change his size without bounds, he can travel the time and the space without limits and he can go in others dimensions and narrative lines. His true form exists out and above every concept, time, space, narrative lines and others and he can't be erased. He can also transcending himself.
